[attr="class","not perfect"]The world was a scary place when she was young but man would she have taken that world as opposed to the one currently forming. It all started with a rapidly spreading virus when she was twelve years old. It was contagious and took the entire world by storm. People dying left and right made life seem to stop in its tracks. Mandatory home quarantines and government shut downs became the reality. Within a year the world wide mass of governments started and rushed out a new miracle vaccine. In efforts to speed things up a lot of safety testing was swept under the rug.
People overlooked it because this miracle vaccine would save them all. They rushed to get the injections like moths to a flame. Within days people started to have reactions. Some were minor but a large amount of folks became very ill and lost their lives. Megan's mother was on of the unlucky and she would never forget coming home to find her dead on the kitchen floor. Days turned to weeks and weeks turned to months and it seemed evolution had a new plan. Approximately one third of the human race started to evolve.
No they didn't grow gills or tails but rather special gifts would surface. Superhuman powers developed in these individuals which took a new level of shock. Though just as the nature of humans the public began to lash out at these people and their gifts. For the first year a lot went into hiding in fear of violence being brought to them. Advocates and family of these gifted souls would raise awareness and fight for protection of their loved ones and friends. Fast forward a bit over a decade and there is general peace. Sure there were groups and politicians that stood opposed to the gifted population. Still a sense of normalcy returned to the world.
This was Megan's second year on her own in college. No one here knew she was a gifted and she liked it that way. Unlike others she was blessed with a gift that no one could see on most days. Still there was a unfortunate slip ups at times and that was where she found herself. A simple sneeze and she would find herself staring in a dirty mirror in some sleazy club. Her gaze falling on the mirror her alter version staring back at her with a smirk. 'Good luck getting out of this one.'
The alter version her just laughed and the sound faded as Megan walked out of the bathroom. Music was loud and she found herself peering around the corner to see a building of very scary and loud biker looking men. Biting her bottom lip her heart was about to pound out of her chest. Glancing over she saw her coat and bag so she quickly grabbed it and headed out of the back. On the curb she would start fast walking down the road. Behind her men came out and started to yell angrily at her.
Picking up the pace she would turn the corner and cut through alleys but they were running after her and bikes were on the street. Megan wasn't sure what her alter self had gotten her into but she wasn't sure where she even was much less how to get out of it. As she rounded a corner she would run into another leather clad guy. He would drop boxes he was carrying as another tall man came from around the side of the box truck. "who the fuck are you?" William would ask the doe eyed blonde. "Sorry.....Some guys are chasing me.." She would speak hoping that just maybe these two were different and decent men. "I'm lost and couldn't find a cab." There was a tear in her eye that rolled down her cheek as she clutched her bag close. "Aight get in the cab of the truck." William spoke dust and pebbles started to swirl and move at his feet. Megan just gave a nod and with her trusting nature got right into the large moving truck.
